Importance of Teaching Biblical Truth
Nursery, Toddler's and Children's Bible Study ministry at Redemption Church is of highest priority. Psalm 78:1-11 clearly expresses the vision for the next generation - that we would not hide His Word from them so that they would not be like their unbelieving fathers. We want our children to be ready for the battle. Many children's curriculums point out Bible heroes such as Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, Esther, etc. Redemption Church is committed to telling the whole truth of the Bible to our children. These people were merely men and women of faith who were used by the true hero in every Bible story - God. We teach our children this truth in preparation for a life of spiritual strength and God-centeredness.
Teaching Biblical Truth to Babies/Toddlers
It is our blessing and joy to teach children the Bible incrementally. Beginning from the youngest infants, we lovingly care for them, playing soft music that reflects Bible verses and truths. We speak to the babies about God and Jesus, referring to how they are loved, how God made them so perfectly, and telling them there is nothing God cannot do. We know that consistently telling these babies truth in loving fashion will help them sense the comfort of church and as we reinforce similar sentiments taught by their parents at home.
Teaching Biblical Truth to Preschoolers
Toddlers eighteen months old to 4 years old start learning Old and New Testament basics, including principles of blessings for obedience and also consequences for evil and disobedience. One of the most important aspects of spiritual training for these children is learning Scripture. Beginning with this age group, we teach two verses per month, constantly reviewing. Even if these little ones can't talk very well at this time, we know they are like little sponges soaking up what they are learning and when they speak they will have all these verses stored in their hearts and memories.
Teaching Biblical Truth to Children
As they grow, the older children learn 1 verse per week. We know that if children begin early storing God's Word in their heart that, with consistency and review, by the time they graduate high school, they should have up to 550 verses the Holy Spirit can use to bring to their awareness at the proper time of need and comfort.
Through the sixth grade, each class has different curriculum that is repeated each year, so we are sure they receive the proper foundation. Teachers have total control of the content taught so that if they feel a particular lesson needs more coverage and review, they can teach a lesson two or three times until they are confident the concepts and truths are learned.
Who Teaches our Children's Bible Study Classes?
Each of our classrooms have a teacher and an assistant. It is a method we use to train new teachers and make sure each child has the appropriate amount of personal attention. This also helps build relationships within the church. We have both men and women as teachers in our children's classes. Men are especially important, as we know many children do not have a strong spiritual man in their lives.
Are Our Bible Study Classes Safe?
All of our rooms have interior windows where staff and parents may view the class from the hallways. This is for the security of each child and for our accountability to the families who have brought their children to us. Parents are welcome to sit in a class if they so desire.
What Curriculum do we use in our Sunday Bible Study Classes?
We use curricula from Desiring God Children's Ministries of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We agree with them that our children must be God-centered, Bible-saturated, full of the joy of the Lord, learning to live a holy and righteous life, submissive to authority, standing for truth, upholding biblical principles, pure in relationships, bold with the Word of God, and unafraid to speak up and stand firm. We pray your hope and vision for your children is the same and that you would allow us the opportunity to share the Word of God with them.
What Curriculum do we offer on Wednesday evenings?
Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30 p.m. we offer a refresher lesson for babies-preschoolers using the Desiring God material. Repetition is very important at this stage of development and children always need to be reminded the truths of the Word of God.
For K-6th grade, children participate in an exiting new curriculum entitled Awana! Awana is designed to take your children on an imaginative journey of Biblical learning. It offers a variety of activities including animated Bible stories, dramatic examples of Biblical application, worshipful and upbeat music, and games and puzzles reinforcing Biblical truths.
